Version 1.13.0 of MeshCore ships with a genuinely useful new operating mode, two additional supported boards, and a round of hardware-specific improvements. The update applies to all three firmware variants: room-server, repeater, and companion.
Off-Grid Client Repeat Mode
The new client repeat mode lets a single device act as both a client and a repeater simultaneously — forwarding messages across the mesh without relying on any fixed infrastructure. This is a practical feature for portable, self-contained setups: think hiking trips, field exercises, or emergency communication drills far outside any network coverage. The mode can be enabled through the standard configuration interface.
Two New Boards
Support has been added for the T-Beam 1W, a higher-output variant of the popular TTGO T-Beam with increased RF transmit power, and the M5 Stack C6, a compact ESP32-C6-based module. Both boards are fully supported with the 1.13.0 firmware and can be flashed using the standard procedure.
Heltec V4: Better Reception and Low-Power Fixes
The Heltec Vision Master T190 (V4) receives two targeted improvements: enhanced RX sensitivity — meaning the radio can now decode weaker incoming signals, which often translates to better real-world range — and fixes for instability that occurred in low-power mode. The latter is particularly relevant for solar- or battery-powered nodes running unattended.
WIO Tracker L1: Grove Sensor Integration
The Seeed WIO Tracker L1 now supports Grove sensors via its built-in Grove connector. This opens up straightforward integration of environmental sensors — temperature, humidity, air quality, and more — without any soldering or additional hardware.
Smaller but Notable Changes
The buzzer behavior has been reverted to its previous logic after the changes introduced in an earlier release caused unintended side effects. The UI received minor polish, including a revised mute icon. Additionally, automatic blob file cleanup has been introduced to prevent stale binary data from accumulating in device storage over time.
After flashing, you can verify your configuration and restart via the CLI:
