Companion App v1.40.0

MeshCore Companion App 1.40.0 – What's New

Version 1.40.0 of the MeshCore Companion App brings a solid set of improvements across tracing tools, message handling, and the connection screen. Here's a rundown of what changed and what it means for your off-grid setup.

Companion Repeat Mode

The app now supports the new Companion Repeat Mode, which requires companion firmware v1.13.0 or later on your device. This mode tightens the interaction between the app and repeater hardware. Make sure to update your firmware before enabling it.

Message Settings and Screen Behaviour

Two new options have been added to the messages settings. You can now configure the app to jump to the oldest unread message when opening a conversation, rather than scrolling from the bottom. There's also an option to keep the screen on while a conversation is active — useful when you're waiting for replies in the field.

A 1-second delay has been added after sending a message before the next one can go out, preventing accidental double-sends. Direct messages now also include an additional random delay between retry attempts, which helps reduce collisions on busy networks.

Trace Tools and Path Analysis

The manual trace tool gets a dropdown menu button to automatically add the return path — a time-saver when testing bidirectional links. If multiple repeaters are known for a single hop, a red info text now flags this in the trace list, making ambiguous paths easier to spot.

Multi-byte path segments are now supported in all path trace tools. Note that this feature requires all repeaters in the path to be running firmware v1.11.0 or newer.

Region Management

The repeater region management UI now shows an info banner whenever there are unsaved changes, so nothing gets lost by accident. If fetching the region list fails, an error message is displayed instead of silently doing nothing. A new button also allows saving regions directly via remote management.

Redesigned Connect Screen

The connect screen tabs now default to the last used connection type, saving a tap every time you reconnect. The old connection options dropdown has been removed — the tabs handle everything now.

Map Screen

Both the local and internet map screens have a new long press menu, giving quick access to additional options for points on the map.

Bug Fixes

Two bugs were squashed: popup menus were incorrectly rendering in light theme while dark mode was active, and the RX log was failing to parse advert feature flags correctly.
